Understanding what thermocouples are and how they work can help you maximize the effectiveness of your SP-1700 thermocouple datalogging applications. The following publications are helpful references for learning thermocouple theory and practice.

  This test method covers the techniques of thermocouple calibration based upon comparisons of thermocouple indications with those of a reference thermometer. Different from methods that involve the use of fixed points; the precise evaluation of the electromotive force (emf)-temperature relation of a thermocouple is accomplished by determining its emf output at each of a series of measured temperatures.

Using Thermocouple Probes with Data Loggers

For certain data logging applications you may need to use a special thermocouple probe. You can use thermocouples from the major suppliers with your SP-1700 thermocouple data logger.

Most thermocouple probes have two-pin connectors. These are not compatible with the SP-1700 data logger.

Instead, purchase probes with bare leads that can be connected to the SP-1700 terminal block. If this is not an option, simply snip the thermocouple connectors off to expose the leads.
