Books on Thermocouples & Thermocouple Theory
|
|
Understanding what thermocouples are, and how they work, can help you maximize the effectiveness of your own SP-1700 thermocouple datalogging applications. The following publications are helpful references for learning thermocouple theory and practice.
- Manual on the Use of Thermocouples in Temperature Measurement
A comprehensive reference guide on thermocouples. If you want to know about thermocouple theory and practice, you'll find it in this book. In addition to theoretical information, it covers temperature uncertainty and supplies a number of reference tables for key thermocouple information. Includes thermocouple principles, electromotive force (emf) tables, calibration, stability, and compatibility data, installation techniques, and other information useful for both novice and experienced thermocouple users. Also included are numerous references and an extensive bibliography.
290 Pages.
- Thermocouples: Theory and Properties, by Daniel D. Pollock
- Practical Thermocouple Thermometry, by Thomas W. Kerlin
- Standard Test Method for Calibration of Thermocouples By Comparison Techniques (ASTM Standard E220-86)
This test method covers the techniques of thermocouple calibration based upon comparisons of thermocouple indications with those of a reference thermometer, different from methods involving the use of fixed points. The precise evaluation of the electromotive force (emf)-temperature relation of a thermocouple is accomplished by determining its emf output at each of a series of measured temperatures.

Thermocouple Probe Suppliers
|
|
If you have a special application, you may need a special thermocouple probe. The following companies sell and stock a wide variety of thermocouple probes that you can use with your SP-1700 thermocouple data logger.
Thermocouple Ordering tips:
Most thermocouple probes are supplied with two-pin thermocouple connectors. These are not required (nor compatible) for use with the SP-1700 Thermocouple data logger. If available, purchase the probes with bare leads so they can be connected to the SP-1700 terminal block. If this is not an option on the thermocouple product you need, simply snip the thermocouple connectors off to expose the leads.
