viewLinc™ Monitoring, Alarming, Reporting Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I need viewLinc?viewLinc is essential if you need to stay connected to your controlled environments and monitor them continuously. Trend data and reporting features are available by browser, from any Internet accessible location. Monitoring applications include pharmaceutical/biotechnical facilities, environments, and processes; critical medicinal products storage area in a Hospital or Lab where instant notification of possible problems is a requirement; calibration labs that require environmental conditions displayed at all times. viewLinc combines the best features of a centralized monitoring and recording system with the reliability and flexibility of self-powered, autonomous recording sensors connected to your existing network. Does my computer need to be on a network for viewLinc? No. viewLinc can work on a single computer or across a network. How many data loggers can I monitor using viewLinc? Our current system supports hundreds of monitoring points on one site license. Can I use viewLinc to remotely download my data loggers?Yes. Veriteq viewLinc includes a TransferScheduler module which allows you to set up automatic downloads of information from any data loggers connected on the network. How is viewLinc different from Spectrum or vLog Software?Key differences are summarized in the following table:
Does viewLinc affect how the data loggers collect data? No. viewLinc has no effect on how the data loggers measure and record data. Data logger operation continues normally while viewLinc monitors the readings and regularly backs up data. This, of course, is one of the big advantages of the viewLinc system: not only is the data backed up regularly on the network but, if there is a failure in the network connection, the data loggers can always be relied upon to produce a backup copy of your critical data. How can I tell my data loggers apart? Each data logger is identified in viewLinc by its unique serial number and a user-editable "Logger Description". The serial number is an unalterable eight-character identifier embedded in the logger's non-volatile memory. This number matches the serial number label that is affixed on the back of every Veriteq data logger and is the same number that shows up in all files, graphs and printouts generated using that unit. The Logger Description is a 16-character description that users enter themselves to provide more information about the application, function or location of the data logger. Other identifying items viewLinc uses to help identify data loggers are the PC name that the data logger is attached to as well as the COM port used to attach each data logger to the PC. What data loggers does the viewLinc system work with?Any Veriteq SP-series 1000/1400, 1700, 2000, 1016/1416 or 4000-series data loggers. The system also works with Veriteq VL-series 1000/1400 and 2000 data loggers. How do I connect data loggers to be monitored by viewLinc?Data loggers can be connected to computers directly, or to a network through a existing computer that is already connected to the network.
